SPRING / SUMMER 2005: "TOP TIPS" continued.....

KEYNSHAM

Using bus services 532 and 533 you can get to the Avon Valley Railway about a a mile and half away with its exciting steam train outings and events for all the family. More information on getting there here.

BATH
-  How about a day out to see the city from its glorious skyline, visit up to three great attractions and help to protect the environment? The single adult fare of £19.95 on the super-green, eco-bus Heritage Hopper allows up to four children to go free, and can last all day. That might sound a lot if there are two or more adults, but you get a wonderful bus tour, jumping on and off as you like, and (if you have the stamina!) can visit all of the following - glorious Prior Park Landscape Gardens, the atmospheric American Museum and the treasures in the exquisite setting of the Holburne Museum. Such a richly filled day out would normally cost around three times as much. Buses depart from right outside the station - go to the City Sightseeing Office for tickets, or call 01225 833422 for more details.

- Hooked on Jane Austen - books, films or both? Or just want to know more about Darcy's wet shirt?* Head for The Museum of Costume at the magnificent Assembly Rooms for Jane Austen: Film and Fashion which has the actual costumes worn by Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson et al, side by side with contemporary historical exhibits. Luscious. www.museumofcostume.co.uk.
(*cult moment in BBC production of Pride and Prejudice if you really didn't know !)

BRADFORD ON AVON
 - This fascinating historic town is such a joy to visit, you hardly need a special reason to go, but if you do, look out for special openings of the town's Secret Gardens this July and August - there are a only a few days when you will be able to do this - check www.bradfordonavon.com, or ring the charming and helpful team in the Tourist Information Office on 01225 865797. The wonderful Millenium Tapestries will be on show again in Holy Trinity Church this summer for those who may have missed them last year.
