THE HEART OF WESSEX LINE
SUMMER has arrived, and so has the Saturday special LOCO HAULED train that First Great Western will be running until August 30th. There are now three good options for day trips to our lovely countryside and market towns, and of course to the glorious beaches and harbourside of Weymouth. Find times for Saturday day trips here.
Our SUMMER LINE GUIDE with all details of the Bristol to Weymouth “Heart of Wessex” line services can found here. (Hyperlink to relevant spot on Exploring page).
SUMMER GUIDED WALKS led by local experts from the Ramblers' Association will begin again on 7th June. The walks are free - all you need is your train ticket, good walking gear and food/drinks to keep you going.
The walks leaders have carefully researched fascinating routes into the very best of our countryside, villages and towns. More details.
The winning establishment from our FOODY TRAIL competition is the INN AT FRESHFORD. More details of this and 10 other great places to eat along the line here. The community at FRESHFORD have developed their own "insiders" map-guide which you will find at the station, or get a preview here.
Our line also takes you into an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in DORSET, and local experts have created four lovely walks from the small rural stations there in "Trains to Trails". Find copies of the walking routes here.
A fun time to head for Dorset will be the weekend of 20th-22nd June for MAIDEN NEWTON AT WAR. Find out more here.
