KEYNSHAM
is almost halfway between Bristol and Bath. There is a lively
market every Friday and three good real ale pubs. One of these,
The Old Bank, in the High Street is on our Rail
Ale Trail.
The Parish Church of St. John has an interesting Jacobean pulpit
and a beautiful seventeenth century tower that offers good views
over the surrounding countryside. The River Avon skirts
round the edge of Keynsham and there are delightful riverside
walks with country pubs and cafes.
Keynsham will remind older readers of Horace Batchelor and his
Radio Luxembourg adverts for his patent method of winning the
pools. If you are under 50 this will all be a mystery to you !
The town is famous for its chocolate factory, which gives the
town its tantalising aroma. The factory was originally owned by
the Frys but is now part of the Cadbury group.
