Marvellous Market Towns

Bradford on Avon is a beautiful, bustling market town with attractive streets and buildings centred around the River Avon. There is a wonderful range of specialist shops offering all kinds of gifts from antiques, children's toys and clothes, to books, specialist food and religious icons. And if you need a rest from shopping there are several excellent cafes offering tea or coffee and cakes as well as restaurants, pubs and inns. The town also has several thriving art galleries craft workshops, displaying locally made wooden and ceramic goods and jewellery.

Frome has a varied selection of specialist shops for anyone looking for something different for Christmas. Around Catherine Hill and Cheap Street you can find anything from old clocks to modern computer games. There are a number of galleries and crafts outlets including Black Swan Arts with two galleries, three studios and a crafts shop all under one roof. Craft markets are held every Tuesday in the Cheese & Grain hall and there are general outdoor markets on Wednesday and Saturday. Local produce is available at the Farmers Market on the second Saturday of each month.

Castle Cary is a vibrant market town whose winding main street is bordered by historic buildings made of local golden coloured Ham stone. The town has an exceptionally good range of specialist shops including bookshops, antiques, high quality grocers, butchers and delicatessens. There are also excellent cafes, inns and restaurants. And the thriving art gallery offers workshops and day schools as well as regular exhibitions of artists' work.
